Directions

By Car

Still an adventure, driving to Kijongo Bay Beach Resort requires a 4×4 vehicle as the road into the lodge can be sandy.

From Dar es Salaam: Take the new bridge over Wami River for the most direct route.  Drive through Bagamoyo to Msata road.  Once across the Ruvu River continue 3 kilometers to Makurunge Village and turn right.  Continue 30 kilometers to Gama Village and Wami River bridge then on to Saadani National Park. Come early so you can enjoy a day in the park (park fees apply) then continue out the Madete Gate past Mkwaja and look for the road sign to Kijongo Bay Beach Resort on the right hand side of the road next to the Sange government school sign.  Follow the road signs for another 8 kilometers to the resort. If you wish to avoid Saadani National Park you can take the Chalinze route and turn towards Mkata then follow the road towards Mkwaja and the Sange turn-off.

From Arusha: Take the Dar es Salaam road to Segera and take the road to Tanga.  If the roads are dry, take the short cut at Muheza, turning right near the petrol station where the road sign to Pangani is located.  From the junction following the Muheza shortcut, turn right towards Pangani town.  Once in Pangani, follow the road around to the ferry and cross to the other side.  After crossing you will continue on the main road (stay right at the top of the hill after the ferry) until you meet a fork in the road.  At the fork, take the lower (left) road and continue on this road until you reach Kijongo junction.  From the ferry you will drive a total of 32 kilometers until the junction for Kijongo Bay Beach Resort.  The turn-off is marked on the left-hand side of the road by a sign for our hotel alongside a low blue government school sign for Sange.  Follow the road signs to the resort for another 8 kilometers.  If the roads are wet, continue to Tanga then take the Pangani Road to Pangani and continue as above.
