Turtle Hatching
Depending on the date that you visit Kijongo Bay Resort, you may have the possibility to watch a miracle of life, when newly hatched Green Turtles dig themselves out and race down to the ocean from Sange Beach. Sange Beach is one of the three official Green Turtle nesting sites in the Tanga Region.
The peak nesting season for Greens Turtles, at Kijongo Bay, usually takes place during the southeast monsoon between April and July. Green Turtles lay on average 3 nests per season, laying around 110 eggs in each nest. The eggs generally hatch after 55 to 65 days. Hatchlings then take between 2 and 5 days, to emerge from the nest, usually at night and make their way to the ocean.
