Perfect family holiday

We spent a week with friends at Kijongo Bay Resort. It was such an amazing holiday. The kids tell it better than we could.

“The staff were all super friendly and welcoming and I really got to know each of them. The beach was beautiful and so interesting. One of my favourite activities was the beach walk when Karl told us lots of information about the sea creatures that we found on our walk right next to the resort. I also loved kayaking, I had never done it before and really liked being in a double kayak with the waves splashing in my face. I’d really like to go back again some day…if my mum and dad let me.”  Abi aged 11 (and a half!)

“Kijongo Bay Resort was really fun because there were lots of activities and fun things to do. I love swimming and knew they had a pool but I didn’t know there would be kayaks!! It was so much fun when you went out on the sea in the kayak, all the bumpy waves would hit you and I just kept laughing. The food was great! I tried new things like calamari, I didn’t think I would like it but all the other food had been amazing so I decided to try something new and unexpected. I actually really liked it. Thank you for such an amazing time.” Eli (aged 10).

“The sea was really good for swimming and I loved all the food and I tried lots of new things. I saw lots of great orangey and yellow sunsets with the palms trees in front. The bonfire was really fun and they gave us marshmallows to roast and we were looking at the stars.” Nathan aged 5 (and a half)

“I saw-ed crabs and did swimming and I like to eat the chapati and the sausages.” Josiah aged 2 (and a half)

Thanks so much Karl and Sally for your kind hospitality, we hope to be back soon!

Family Get Together

We visited in July 2022 as a group of 2 families with tots to teens and had a fantastic week. We were looked after so well by the whole team at Kijongo Bay. The welcome was amazing by the team and the locally sourced fresh food cooked on site by the fabulous kitchen staff was outstanding every day.... no mean feat for our range of tastes. We made good use of the kayaks both in the ocean and at the river. Our walk to the Mangroves and out on to the ocean flats were great and really rich in information for every age again. We had lazy days by the pool, beach fun and when evening came we relaxed at the bar before dinner. The accommodation was beautiful and very comfortable. Some even managed sleeping out under the stars! A really wonderful, relaxing week helped by a great team without exception!

AWESOME

Our family of five visited Kijongo Bay Beach Resort in August 2021. We have been trying to return for several months and will be visiting again soon. It is AWESOME in the true sense of the word, not the overused phrase of today. The location is spectacular with all villas and the communal dining and pool area all facing the ocean. We arrived at lunchtime, planning to stay two nights, and decided to extend for a third night because the resort offers true relaxation and comfort. The villas are beautifully appointed. The food is sublime, very fresh ingredients and diverse meals. The kitchen staff and managers were very careful to cater to our dietary restrictions, including a severe allergy. The managers, Sally and Karl, and all the team gave us a warm welcome and offered a wealth of information as well as a guided walk. As a guest, you can choose to do as little or as much as you want. A guest can spend the day reading on the top balcony of a villa, enjoying the breeze or a guest can walk on the beach or kayak in the water for kilometers. It was a rare find for our family with ages 9-50+ for kids, teens and adults all to agree that it is a super vacation spot.

Escape to Paradise

Our family of five (including one teen, one tween, one child) had a fabulous visit to Kijongo Bay Beach Resort. It was our first visit. We had booked originally for two nights, but decided to stay a third night because the accommodation, location, food and service were so exceptional. We definitely plan to return. The co-managers, Sally and Karl, and the staff team members were exceptional. The kitchen was able to accommodate our special dietary restrictions and produced fresh and tasty meals that all of us could enjoy. The villas are impeccably clean and tastefully appointed. Each villa has a covered balcony with a giant sofa that can be made up as a bed with a mosquito net should any guest want to sleep outdoors. Our son very much enjoyed that option. Kijongo Bay Beach is currently the only resort open on this 8 km stretch of beach. We were the only guests and enjoyed long walks on the beach and extended outings and water play using the kayaks available at the resort. The resort is taking precautions for COVID, including all staff wearing masks and good cleaning and sanitizing practices.
We had constant delightful breezes blowing from the ocean and felt very comfortable. Travelers who require air conditioning may not be a fit for this resort. The location feels quite remote (which makes it special), but the drive to Dar es Salaam can be made in 5-6 hours depending on traffic and off road driving skills. It will be easiest to visit by car during the dry season as the road is rough and is mainly made of sand as you get closer to the resort. Once you arrive, you will not want to leave! GO!

Wonderful place to stay

I went there with my family for four nights on full boarding. We also had a one day safari drive to Saadani National Park. The place is very welcoming and very close to the beach. It is an excellent place to relax for family. The managers and the whole team made sure that we have everything we needed. The food was unbelievable. In short, I would recommend the hotel with no hesitation.

Just returned from a second trip to Kijongo Bay and again we had the place to ourselves! It is a 40 minute trip from the airstrip but as my father said" I never thought I'd visit a place like this in my lifetime!"
The beach is long, clean and deserted. The staff are exceptional and the villas are exquisite. In addition the food is delicious.
If go to Zanzibar rather than here, you are missing a treat but please let us have it to ourselves when we next go!!

This is a great place to relax. Far off everything else you can escape the busy Western World and get new energy and inspiration by the beautiful nature around it. We as a couple highly enjoyed the beautiful sundowner set up at the salt panels and a very lovely boat ride into the mangroves with the best hosts in the world Jiri and Michelle. Very remote and unspoilt beach, perfect for long evening dawn walks. Enjoy an evening at the fire, a good book at the pool and don't miss out on their delicious self-made ice-cream!

Word can't describe what this magical place is! Thank you very much! For all who search alternatives to the islands of Tanzania, loves the nature and beach, likes perfect service and friendly staff is here right! It is a littlest difficult to get there, but every minute is worth it!

Beautiful spot in the enormous and still almost unspoilt stretch of palm orchards South of Pangani. Very friendly and knowledgeable management and staff. Nice comfortable houses, excellent food and service.

A few of us organised a weekend here and had such a wonderful time. The hosts went out of their way to make it extra special and it was! The staff were so friendly, the food was absolutely delicious ( one night they even arranged a candle-lit dinner on the beach for all of us), the rooms are comfortable and airy with lovely views over the beach and sea, the pool was a perfect spot for day time chilling and reading, the location is beautiful with long white sand stretches of beach. We would highly recommend going!

We had the most wonderful stay at Kijongo Beach Resort. Very remote, very quiet, very authentic swahili style, like being on a paradise island. Can highly recommend Kijongo!

When I first heard about Kijongo, I looked at the pics on your website and thought it looked like a lovely place. I can confirm that the pics might show the physical nature of the place, but don't begin to describe the warmth and friendliness of the property with its wonderfully welcoming staff who never seem to stop smiling.

I recently stayed at Kijongo Bay with my daughters family (including 3 young children). The welcome was warm and friendly, the accommodation was just fabulous. Wonderful villa's with amazing views. Really comfortable beds, with the chance to sleep on the roof (terrace) at night. The rooms were clean and fresh. The food was so good - fresh and beautifully served. The staff too were so good, and welcoming and helpful and cheerful.
